Alexa and Chris had a special fondness for Jersey City Hall, so getting married there was a no-brainer.
“The building has tons of history and beautiful architecture,” says Alexa.
Surrounded by 12 of their nearest and dearest, the couple exchanged vows, then celebrated at an area restaurant. The low-key wedding couldn’t have been more perfect for the couple.
“We enjoyed getting to share the ceremony with the people we truly cared about in a venue we cherish,” explains Alexa. “We were able to get and do exactly what we wanted.”
Kudos to the talented Bri Johnson for capturing this stylish small wedding so beautifully.

Why did you have an intimate wedding?
We had been to many larger weddings in the past and they always seemed like a production that the couple did not get to fully enjoy. By keeping ours small we wanted to focus the day on each other and our close families.
What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?
Because we did not use a wedding planner, we did much of the organization ourselves.
Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?
Yes, there were some close friends we decided not to invite but were on the fence about for a while.
Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?:
Yes, a few of our friends were sad not to be invited. We explained the reasons for our small wedding and we planned a party the next night so friends could celebrate with us.
What were the highlights of the ceremony?
Getting married at City Hall was a wish of ours. The building has tons of history and beautiful architecture. We enjoyed getting to share the ceremony with the people we truly cared about in a venue we cherish.
What were the highlights of the reception?
Because we were a small group, we were able to book a private room in a nice Italian restaurant in the West Village.
What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?
We were able to get and do exactly what we wanted.
What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?
Even keeping it small it will still cost more than you anticipate. Make sure to choose a few items to splurge on (like the photographer) and keep costs down in other areas.
