How to Make Lavender Sachets
Create a 4″ x 4″ template out of card stock or cardboard and place on your fabric.
Using pencil, trace around the template. Cut out the square using scissors (not pinking shears.) Repeat so you have two squares.
Iron the squares together. (This step is important. You won’t have to pin the pieces together if they are ironed. However, if you are using a delicate fabric such as organza, it’s a good idea to use pins.)
Fire up sewing machine. Using a tight zigzag stitch or small straight stitch and a 1/2 inch seam allowance, start sewing about 3/4 of the way down one side until 1/2 inch from end.
Turn fabric and keep sewing until you are 1/2 inch from the end. Turn fabric again and repeat.
Keep sewing until you are one inch from your first stitch. This space will be where you will insert your funnel and add lavender. Remove from sewing machine, leaving threads long.
Trim edges with pinking shears.
Place lavender in a container for easy scooping.
Place funnel inside sachet and add three tablespoons of lavender. Shake it down as you go.
Return sachet to sewing machine and pull threads to one side as shown. Using same zigzag stitch and overlapping at each end, sew opening closed.
Cut threads and you are done! If you want to create a hanging lavender sachet, simply stitch a piece of tied ribbon onto the front.
Stack in groups of two or three and tie with ribbon. Place inside a basket, vintage drawer, old fashioned suitcase, wire basket or decorative container at your shower or wedding and offer up to your guests as favors.
